Happiness & Its Causes 2010

I am thrilled, and a little flattered, to announce that after two and a half years of hard work I've been invited to take Laughter Yoga to the "Happiness and Its Causes 2010" conference! This conference has featured some of the biggest, baddest (or should that be happiest?), and most influence figures in happiness Dalai Lama [1]; Martin Seligman [2] (the 'father' of positive psychology); Marva Collins [3] (US educationalist); and Tal Ben Shahar [4]. This year I am very much looking forward to seeing Barbara Fredrickson [5] - a pioneer in the field of positive emotions. Happiness & Its Causes [6] is the world's largest forum on human happiness and is being held at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, 5-6 May 2010.  Each year, over 2,000 people from all walks of life meet at the conference to examine the big issues of life.   The conference provides a unique combination of hard-edged science, real life inspiration, gut-wrenching personal stories and practical wisdom. Many have hailed it as a life-changing experience. I know I certainly have - it is also an incredible buzz to be in a room so many people all interested in human development. There are some fantastic key note speakers [7] scheduled to present over the two-day event, including some of the world's best psychologists, scientists and philosophers (and of course - me)!  I am very grateful for the opportunity to bring laughter yoga to so many people - I hope you can be one of them.  If you do come please popp (sorry couldn't resist that pun) over and say hello. Yours Laughingly, Cris Popp [1] http://www.dalailama.com/ [2] http://www.authentichappiness.sas.upenn.edu/Default.aspx [3] http://www.marvacollins.com/ [4] http://www.talbenshahar.com/ [5] http://www.positivityratio.com/ [6] http://www.happinessanditscauses.com.au/ [7] http://www.happinessanditscauses.com.au/speakerList.stm more

In this age of high-technology, scientific miracles and medical breakthroughs, it might just be that something as simple as laughter is the best medicine, after all. For a long time, medical doctors have known that happy patients generally respond more favourable to treatment and recover faster than cheerless and complaining ones.

The immune effect of laughter stays with us for a lifetime. In light of the facts about how stress defeats the immune system, this is a very good piece of information to have. what is laughter therapy

The term "laughter therapy" is used interchangeably in Australia. Sometimes it refers to the use of laughter in a therapeuitic setting (ie with a counsellor or therapist) and sometimes it's used to refer to the therapeutic benefits of laughter in a workplace or social setting. In the US there is actually the "Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor (AATH)". www.aath.org. A group of therapists dedicated to using laughter to heal people. If you want to know more call me or contact the AATH
